This abstract acrylic on stretched canvas came about while I was experimenting with the technique of painting on one of my favourite colour combinations and then scraping the paint off, leaving the canvas stained with colour. This process was repeated several times so the layers of colour superimposed on each other and made other interesting colours. As it developed I started to imagine a city at night with skyscrapers. I felt it needed some white to calm things down in places and so introduced the white circles. They seemed like giant lanterns floating through the city streets and the city of Beijing came to mind.
